t war against Napoleon. The naval battles of the Mediterranean are making history. Against this masculine dominated world where women are relegated to roles as wives, servants, or even harlots, one woman rebels. Lady Johanna Cornehl, daughter of the Admiral of the Fleet, is unwillingly caught up in this cultural caste, until she boards a thirty-six gun privateer bound for England. Magician, living up to its name, casts a spell on the unsuspecting lady. An enchantment which will involve her in the lives of the crew, but more essentially, with the captain, Harold “Hal” Monroe and his surgeon, Dr. James Emrys. Well after her initial destination is achieved, the snare in which Johanna has been caught will continue to direct her fortune, involving her in romantic collusions, a Scandal-ous role in the theatre, battles at sea, abduction, treason, hidden pasts and revenge on land and at sea. In the direst of circumstance – her dearest friends kidnapped, Magician forced into sure peril, her husband surrendering the battle waged to win her affection – the lady finally runs aground. Caught in this firestorm of adversity revelation is inspired. Is it too late for Johanna to change course, and secure her fortunes?

ome on aboard for a rousing adventure with Captain Harold “Hal” Monroe and Lady Johanna Cornehl, along with their friends, and a delectably despicable villain. Their travels involve treason, abduction, hidden pasts, scandalous theatre, and revenge on land and sea, and eventually lead to a happy ending! (Click on the link below for a sample chapter.) The second installment: His Apprentice, is written and currently being edited. (click below for a preview chapter) Although not technically a sequel, it does involve characters from Magician’s Spell, primarily Timothy Ruhl and Emily Petranella. Their adventures will take them from Malta to Boston, Massachusetts in the months preceding the War of 1812. It also introduces a new character, a clairvoyant named Gallagher, who will have a provocative impact Tim and Emily’s relationship. I have prodigious notes and an outline for the third book, tentatively entitled Ruse de Guerre. Joining Dr. James Emrys is a new character, introduced in His Apprentice, Eddy Frederic, who has a unorthodox secret. They, and familiar comrades, will embark on a theatrical foray around the Mediterranean, with a particularly heart-pounding encounter with the Barbary Pirates. Keep tuned! I am so glad I ignored my father’s advice to get a “real job” and stop playing in the theatre. I began my career primarily as a costumer, designing and constructing five shows a year for an eight year period. When I wasn’t sewing, I was hanging lights, directing, acting, designing and constructing sets, or doing any theatrically driven feats in as many of the local and professional |

Theatres in San Diego as was possible to fit into my impossible schedule. Ah, the energy of youth! All my romantic inclinations can’t be blamed entirely on living in this fantastical world for those years. My mother introduced me to classic films with her own personal favorites, which led to an ongoing love affair with movies of all kinds (except horror). She was also responsible for putting into my hands Gone with the Wind and Forever Amber. That began an addiction to historical romance, and reading in general, which has never been quenched. The lack of follow-through on a screenplay for an unproduced movie called The Summoning hatched the possibility a novelization of the story. I kicked around the writing idea, until a good friend’s advice helped me alter my course. Magician’s Spell is my first foray into writing. It takes place during Napoleon’s War, specifically with Britain’s Royal Navy, during the late 1700s. It is firstly an historical adventure, and secondly an exploration into two character’s obsessions, shaped by the same powerful man. My personal love of all things nautical has placed these two on a 36-gun frigate called Magician. It becomes a primary force in assisting the couple’s eventual enlightenment. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!
